Adolescence is the period in which the most dramatic changes occur physically, emotionally, psychologically, and socially within the life. Hormonal, developmental, or environmental changes can lead to increased impulsivity, and even psychological instability.  In order to find out more about services offered for adolescent services, please call 678-231-2031.

Childhood is a time of growth and exploration.  Sometimes life events can begin to affect normal childhood development.  It is important to address these issues as they arise rather than waiting.  For small children, play therapy can be an effective way to address emotional, and psychological issues related to children ages 6-9 years old.  In order to find out more about play therapy offered at GCC, please call 678-231-2031.

A wide range of topics can be addressed in counseling with GCC.

Some of the topics may include:

  • Social skills
  • Grief and loss
  • Depression
  • School adjustment
  • Anger management
  • Attentional difficulties
  • Cultural adjustment
  • Family adjustment
  • Behavioral concerns
  • Learning disabilities
  • Coping with violence
  • Nervousness
  • Trauma
  • Abuse and neglect
  • Inappropriate Sexual Behavior

Adolescents are experiencing constant develeopmental changes.  This can be frustrating for parents, and often parents are left confused or even angry.  Independance is an important part of this development, but finding appropriate expressions of independence can sometimes be difficult for an adolescent.  Adolescents must examine themselves and develop their own identity by becoming independent from their parents and by expanding interpersonal relationships with their peers.  Such a change, however, is not an easy task. It is not uncommon for the adolescents to experience disappointment and discouragement during this developmental process. The rapidly changing the world makes establishing roles and values an extremely difficult task to accomplish.

The hurt and confusion adolescents feel regarding their "sense of self" is often times expressed in low grades, antisocial behavior, or psychological/physical symptoms.

Georgia Counseling Center has experience in helping teens and parents negotiate through this challenging time in life.

Developing appropriate skills, insight, and boundaries can sometimes make all the difference in the family of an adolescent or teenager.
